Tiyoweh is a Native American word, meaning “Stillness”; entering the silence in order to connect with Mother Earth, and our Spirit helpers in Nature. To connect to our inner voice for guidance.
This cannot be accomplished without Tiyoweh, the Stillness
We have talked about Being “PRESENT”. There are many catch phrases now for the need for our culture to be still. Being in the NOW, GROUNDED, CENTERED
I tried to watch television the other day, and it seems as if all of my senses were assaulted
The commercials are much louder than the shows. The strobe-like visuals. The raw sexual and violent content of the programming and ads. Things are getting louder, to get our attention. We are numb and seemingly immune. Until you turn it off and desensitize.
I have been De-sensitized. I watch a limited amount of television anymore I avoid chaos and drama. I cannot watch people in chaos; I have eliminated chaotic and dramatic people from my life. This energy makes me feel bad, it makes me cry, it makes me nauseated, it makes me angry. It is not uplifting; it disrupts my peace, and stillness
This energy assault is ongoing in our day. People talk at each other; people are raging on the roads in their cars. Everyone is short. Parents verbally disrespecting their children out of exhaustion and frustration. Children, whining yelling, hitting, disrespecting because they have not learned to; be, or be heard, or have been honored, they are exposed to so much violence and chaos that they are reflecting it.
There is little Tiyoweh, Stillness. Rather than getting louder to be heard, we need to get quieter, to see what is going on while we are moving at breakneck speed to get nowhere. To honor our children with quiet peaceful living spaces, a refuge away from the outside world. A Haven, A place to find Peace, Quiet, Love, inner guidance.
There is much in the nuance in life that we are missing. Once we jump out of the current and watch from the bank, it is hard to imaging jumping back into that madness, that chaos and insanity.
There is a gentleman I know in the hospital. He was anxious at having to be in bed, away from his routine for 3 weeks, he had to ask for help in doing things. He told me that he felt lazy, he was angry, he was sad, in denial; he was experiencing grief at the transition. He was de-programming. His perception was shifting, and he was not in Control of the situation.
This forced process is very uncomfortable. He told me that being there was doing nothing, and he felt lazy. I advised him that being there was purposeful, that moving without purpose was not doing, and being still to heal and think, to relax and plan was not being lazy.
As the days progressed, I saw a transformation. He became PRESENT, Peaceful. He looked more relaxed than I had seen him in years. His blood pressure went way down. He quit smoking after 58 years. I reminded him that all things are purposeful. That this must have been the only way the Universe could find to slow him down, make him think, and the icing on the cake control is an illusion! If he had willingly made changes this may not have been necessary.
I offer a prayer, as his stay comes to a close that he finds a way to remain at peace, to apply his new found stillness to his routine at home, change is not easy, but unavoidable. Changes will have to be made, routines and chores will have to be delegated, but the best changes of all have already been accomplished. I am glad he heard the message
Don’t make the Universe upset your canoe, as you fly Willie Nillie down the raging river.Pull over, take some time to enjoy the scenery, have a picnic, watch the birds, and see what is really going on while you are not paying attention.
Teach your children to be still, to trust their inner voice.Ask your little voice for guidance. The answers may surprise you.
Here is the thought for the day
If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person. If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the house. If there is harmony in the house, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
