CYCLES

Cycles... life is full of Cycles;Life cycles, Seasonal cycles, Menstrual cycles, Lunar cycles. All things revolve....Cirlces (cycles) everywhere.

Our society here in the United States, unless you are a farmer, do not honor the presence of cycles. There hardly seems room for all the other cycles, outside of the hamster wheel we are on!!!

But, If we add the other cycles, the daily cycle would be less demanding. In honoring the  cycles, it is like flowing downstream with the current, instead of swimming upstream against the current.

The seasonal cycles offer opportunity for hibernation(Fall/ Winter), rest and rebirth. We do not have to take them literally, but we can be very productive during hibernation, it is a time of planning, creating, preparing, embracing our cave.(Winter Spring), Making ready to bring these ideas and creations out at the  a time of newness, planting, renewal, creation.(Spring/ Summer) To be tended and cared for, soaking up the sun, productivity, recreation. Giving way to (Summer/Fall])a time of harvest, reaping the fruits of our labors. A time to celebrate the changing of the season, getting our cave ready for hibernation, preparing for the quiet death of Winter again. These mirror the life cycles of Birth, Child,  Adult, Elder, then Death.

Sometimes, our cycles are not that natural, they are out of sinc or order, we are fighting the seasons, our own life cycles.

Some of us did not have a childhood, it was interrupted, or taken from us.

Some of us are living our childhood in our adult years. Unable to graciously surrender the things of youth or we are too busy to appreciate the fruits of our labors, our children while they are young.  Procrastination. Isn't it about enjoying life in general while we still have our health and energy?

Our elder years can be a time of fear, of being unprepared, guilt,  nowhere to go, or failing health. Regret, unsaid and undone things, because we failed to prepare, forgot we are not going to live forever. This is a time we should have few concerns. Be elders; of service to those younger than us,telling children stories, being free to rest, being of counsel and nurturing to Mothers and Fathers.

Seems a little sad and backward, right?

There is a quote that I love:

Live your life so that the fear of death can never enter your heart. When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light. Give thanks for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. And if perchance you see no reason for giving thanks, rest assured the fault is in yourself.
Chief Tecumseh, Shawnee Indian Chief

Your deathbed is not the time to realize your regrets, it will be too late to change those things then.

Lets make a list, finish some of you life cycles.   Stop and play, enjoy the fruit of you labors, fly a kite, play in a sandbox, forgive someone, ask for forgiveness, be of service, feed the poor, babysit for a single parent, ask for advice from our elder community. The possibilities are endless.  We will be freed to be present in the moment, without regret, or guilt, or looking in the past.  Free to grow, and enjoy the cycles.
